Charles Hatt steps off of it and heads to Knapford. There, he reunites with his father and the two catch up. Sir Topham Hatt asks when he will return to Sodor next, but his son is unsure. Hatt then says he has a present for him and he and Percival leave to fetch it while Charles waits outside. A suspicious man walks up to Charles and hands him a letter, telling him to meet someone at the viaduct. Hatt and Percival return, only to find Charles gone. Charles Hatt arrives at the viaduct and finds Simon Johnson. The latter accuses him of stealing his wife. The two begin to argue as Simon pulls something out from behind his back. Meanwhile, Diesel departs from Knapford with a goods train. Simon ties Charles to the tracks. Charles begs for Simon to let him go, but the effort is futile and he is ran over by Diesel. Sir Topham Hatt, Mr. Percival and the police investigate the scene later as Simon watches from the shadows. Hatt is devestated, as his heir to the railway, and son, are gone.
